Inventor is a computer modeling software that is used for. Invented by Jacob Sain, Inventor is used to design and create just about anything you imagine. Starting with a 2D sketch one can easily extrude it and make a 3D object. The program uses additive and subtraction processes to make objects. Such as sketching and extruding or sketching to cut out part of an object. For our use in this class we made 6 "widgets" then chose one to 3D print with filament.
This is a step by step guide on making the 5th widget
When finished the final looks like this...3D printing!I decided to print widget #3. I used Inventor to make it then saved it in CAD-Format. After that, I saved it as a STL file. Using Makerbot I uploaded the file and sized it accordingly.
This is the setup and start to the 3D printing process.
Below is the final product.
In this project I learned how to use Inventor and Makerbot. I had to first create the widget in inventor then save it specially so Makerbot was able to read it correctly. Makerbot allows you to print anything 3D as long at is saved properly. Once it is saved as a STL file you can start using the Makerbot software. There I learned to make sure the set-up of the object is correct. Making the bottom flat and have no supports. From there save it to a flash drive and input the flash drive into the printer. I learned how to select things on the printer and to get it to start. In the end my project was a success.
